Cross-check: Coast to Coast route description on National Trails . The walk is taken from that page, checked 12 October 2026. Miles on our line are measured between these ends on the imported path. Where a walking guide uses the same two ends, its miles are from walkcoasttocoast.co.uk, also checked 12 October 2026.

The walk

Both lines are official. The high path crosses the Swale above West Wood, climbs by Swinner Gill and East Grain onto Gunnerside Moor, and comes down by Old Gang Beck and Surrender Bridge to Reeth. The low path stays by the river, through the hay meadows and the villages of Gunnerside and Healaugh, and enters Reeth beside the Swale. On our line the measured stretch is 10.9 miles (17.5 km), with 630 m (about 2,070 ft) of climb. A walking guide measures Keld to Reeth as 11.2 miles (18.1 km) and 611 m (about 2,000 ft). The two figures are close. They are not a guarantee that both were walked on the same one of the two lines.

No. National Trails describes a high line over Gunnerside Moor and a low line by the Swale. Both are the trail, and both finish in Reeth.
