The walk
The walk opens with the steep pull up Amberley Mount, then the path opens into chalk grassland. Washington has the pub and the shop, and the only crossing of the A24. Chanctonbury Ring is the circle of beeches on the old fort. Steyning is the village below those hills. The River Adur comes after that drop, and it is not a night.

Start of section
Amberley
-
Amberley Mount
The steep start. After it the grassland is open, and a short detour south of Kithurst Hill reaches an old tank left from the war. Washington, with its pub, shop and flint church, is the village after the descent. The A24 is crossed once, by a bridge.
-
Chanctonbury Ring
A circle of beeches on an Iron Age fort, with the remains of a Roman temple inside. The climb from Washington is steep. Steyning is the village below the hills after it.

Not the night
The River Adur
The path meets the river at Botolphs. That hamlet is not a night on these plans. Sleep at Steyning, back up the hill, unless you are on the 6-day and still going on to Pyecombe.
